The taupo bay surfing trip

 WALT:  Connect with our local environment and improve our surfing skills so that we can surf like a professional.

We arrived at 10 am in the morning It was our classes turn to go surfing and the waves were perfect for surfing and I stood up on about 16 of them.Them our turn was up and we played on the playground and played beach cup.

                                                                                                                                                            

refection: I loved surfing and cup. I wish we can do again some time soon.

 WALT: Use summarising skills and key vocabulary to write a paragraph relating to the text.

Intro: First We read articles and watch video's and gather information about the subject we choose. next we put it into a paragraph.

Reflection: It was interesting to research about a affect that involves climate change.

 WALT: recount a memory from our holiday and write a short summary for a friend.

Intro: first I used google drawings to recreate the things I did in the holidays. When I was done with that I  would write what I did and share it with a friend.   

Reflection: I think it's cool to share the fun things I did in the school holidays with friends. I wish there was one more week for the holidays.

BREAKING NEWS GLOBAL WARMING

 WALT: Use the TEXT structure to write a quality paragraph.

First create  three paragraphs about Global warming and then make it into a news paper.

Refection: It was cool learning more about Global Warming. I liked the idea of making it into a news paper.

My math graph

 WALT: Use Google Sheets to create and interpret time series graphs.

First I Studied the weather of Whangerei and Kataia over a week and made it into a graph.

Reflection: I noticed that Kaitaia and Whangerei had very similar high temperatures.

My Decimal Problems

 WALT: Understand decimals to the tenths, hundredths and thousandths. Use decimals within word problems

First we had to make a decimal problem then when we were finished we could do the other classes one.

Reflection: It was fun making a decimal problem. I Wish we could make a second one.

My Mosaic Art

My mosaic is a monster. What you do is get a picture of the internet of your choice. Then you use the poli line tool to make your shapes.  

Reflection: It was fun making my mosaic art. I wish we can do it again.

 

My Inferencing Cards

WALT:Make inferences using the clues in the text along with your own experiences to help you figure out what is not directly said.

Reflection: It was very difficult to figure out all the 10 cards. I wish we could use this in stories.

  

My WOW word Idyllic

 WALT: Find the word 'idyllic' in the dictionary and learn it's meaning. Think about how you feel in the ‘yellow’ Mana Potential zone. Think about your ‘go to’ place and design your own idyllic setting.

Intro: First we learn about the word idyllic. Then we make a idyllic background.

 Reflection: It was awesome creating the background. I wish we could make more like this.

WALT: We had to read stories then write down what there about.

Intro: First we had to read the story then write when it was? where it was? who? why?

 Reflection: It was fun reading about the different stories. I wish we could make our own.

My Russell Crowe WOW Word

WALT: Find information on a famous NZ actor (Russell Crowe).

First we created a google drawing and we researched about 5 movies he was in. One of them was Robin hood. So we made a animation about robin hood.

My 2020 Speech

WALT: We learnt to write a full speech about a topic of our choice, and say it in front of a audience. 

We spent  4 or 5 weeks of creating and practising our speech, there was 11 topic's to choose and chose why online learning is better than face to face learning. I was luckily one of the kids that is going to the Speech competition in Kaitaia.

Ka ora everyone My name is Brendon Dowman and I’m a year 6 student at Mangonui School. This is my argument about why online learning is better than face to face learning. Be warned I like to joke around. Ok why did the chicken cross the road? To hear me talk about his short life. 

Most of my speech is based on lockdown, because in lockdown we did a lot of homeschooling on the internet. That means that kids spent a lot of  time on their devices. But then you would have to go on a class site and do all this pointless stuff, but there are still heaps more advantages on a device than a book or a sheet of paper. 

My first example is erasing, so if you want to erase some words on a device you can just click a button and it's gone. But if you were writing in a book you would have to use a rubber, and then after 300 years of rubbing you can still just see it on your page. Another simple example is typing. It’s 10,000 times easier than writing by hand, and if you have terrible handwriting like me, at least you can read it.  Most children don’t like writing, but put them in front of a keyboard, and they’ll create all sorts of documents.  But don’t take months fidgeting with different fronts and sizes, that’s just time wasting.

Another issue with face to face learning is that sometimes there is a personality clash between the teacher and the learner, because it can be boring when the teacher explains for weeks and weeks about fraction strategies . But again if you put them in front of a device it's easier to work with.   

That was some simple examples of why online learning is easier than face to face learning. I think you have related. Technology is an amazing invention, It completely changed the world! Before my speech is finished I have one last joke. What did the children say when the genius hit the idiot with a book? They said “ ha ha he got hit with knowledge”.

WALT: Find information on a famous director (Sir Peter Jackson).

At the start we had to make a a google drawing/ Wow word about a famous director called Peter Jackson. He directed movies such as the Hobbit and lord of the rings.

REFLECTION: It was fun learning about a director. When I'm older I want to be a actor and director.

Intro: Tuatara and kutuku class created a thank you letter for our prime minister. when she received the letter she replied . We were very excited to get a reply. Then a lady called Jenny Ling came to interview us. That is how we got our faces on the nz herald.

Intro: First I had to Create a google drawing and named it. Secondly I wrote down the meaning of tripod. Thirdly I made a google drawing of a tripod. Last of all I labeled all the tripod parts.

Reflection: It was hard to create a google drawing of a tripod. It was fun researching about different tripod parts.

At the start I buddied up with a friend to study different camera shots.

Reflection: It was difficult to find all of the camera shots. I wish we could MAKE A MOVIE ALL READY!

first I copied the slide off my teacher. Then I had to answer questions about the poster and what I thought of it.

Reflection: I liked answering the questions of the poster. I wish we could make our own.

My Thank You Letter To A Essential Worker.

WALT: Write a formal thank you letter following a formal letter structure.

First I created a plan on paper for what I was going to write in my thank you letter. Then I had to write three paragraphs based on my plan. In the first paragraph I wrote why I was thanking them. In the second one I wrote was some interesting facts and in my last paragraph I wrote what I did in lock down.

First I created a google drawing and as the days went on we had to research about the word arachnophobia which is a fear of spiders.

Reflection: It was fun researching all the different phobias. I wish we could do a wow word with a different phobia.

First I created a google drawing, secondly I had to find a photo of her on the internet. Next I trace  the pic using the line tool on google drawings.

Reflection: It was very tricky to trace her hair. I wish this was a little bit easier.

Reflection: It felt fascinating to research this information. I enjoyed learning about how tsunami's are formed and what there formed by. It was shocking haw many people died because of the tsunami.

My house plan

WALT: Create the perfect property using pencil, paper and a ruler. Intro: First I had to make concept plan. Then I measured my concept plan and next I copied the measurements and then wrote my actual plan and all the rooms, also I named them. sea turtle text

WALT: Edit our writing using the text tool.

We had to write a paragraph about turtle using text.

Reflection: Was easy to find information about the turtle. It was hard to find a problem for the turtles.

The turtle, the amazing animal loved by many. Seven different species of turtle, The most common sea turtles in New Zealand are the Green and Leather back turtles. The Kemp’s ridley turtle is the most rare species of turtle. I think you already know most of the problem’s to turtles like Global warming and plastic pollution. But you probably haven't heard about light pollution. Light pollution is a huge problem for turtle hatch lings. This is a problem because once the turtle hatches they go straight to the light, if they are born at night then it is even more of a problem because as I said they go straight to the light and if their born on by a their might go to the street light instead of the ocean.

They go to the light before houses, buildings and more, the moon would shine on the sea and turtles would follow the moon into the sea, but now they are going the opposite way. When they go toward the city they could be run over, step on, or get stolen. The turtles are in danger, they were here when dinosaurs were here. I want them to live longer than us, before they end up as a memory.

intro: My class has to do a quiz to see what there inner animal is a silly monkey, I don't really mind because I'm kind of like a silly monkey. Next  we had to make a google drawing of it.
reflection: it was fun doing the quiz but it was the pretty hard doing the google drawing.

                        REFLECTION

On the first day I was late to camp because I did swimming sports. Me my dad and my friends put up the tent We stayed 3 days On the second day we did beach rotations. My Favourite rotation was paddle boarding. 
On the last day We went on a big walk. We went up and down 5 hills! We had lunch then went home.

first you had to choose a shop to shop at. I choose kfart I mean kmart to shop at. Next we had 100 fake dollars to spend at kfart. So you choose the item you wanted, screenshot it and its price. Then paste it on the slide. Last of all you add up your money.

Reflection: I liked adding up the money. It wasn't easy to look for the stuff to get. I wish we had more money to spend.

We arrived at the beach the blue sky was shining bright like a lamp post standing by the dark and lonely streets of the city. We put our bags under a shady tree. All the wild kids ran into the ocean as fast as a crazy bull. The waves were as big as the tree tops on top of a beautiful mountain.
